to improve the world responsibly and safely. KBR is seeking a Mechanisms Engineer to support a NASA Goddard project in the Washington, DC area. Principle functions include:
understanding and clarifying mission requirements; conducting research and development activities; analyzing and testing systems to quantify their capabilities; developing operational concepts that exploit new technical capabilities; and developing, testing, and evaluating selected aerospace systems and subsystems. The Mechanisms Engineer will aid in the design, fabrication, and testing of mechanisms for spacecrafts and spaceflight instruments. These activities include the development of robotic tools, instrument mechanisms, spacecraft deployables, and actuators for flight and ground development. This would involve tasks such as performing computer aided design (CAD), performing simple structural analyses, and leading the building and testing of prototype and/or space flight mechanism hardware. This position will require the ability to work in a hands-on intensive work environment and be able to engage in technical interchange with NASA personnel. Responsibilities:
Prepare reports documenting the models and the analyses performed, presentations, requirements documents, research, and other contract deliverables. Participate in selected programs, events, and meetings involving staff, Government customers, and visitors. Provide occasional technical support for proposals similar in scope Perform work on-site in the NASA facilities Occasional travel, including international, may be required Required Education, Experience & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field 5 years of years of experience in mechanical engineering field Experience with NASA or military space programs involving space and ground mechanism development Knowledge and experience with spaceflight mechanism lubrication systems, gear systems, motor actuators, release mechanisms, bearing systems, and life testing Candidate must have a working knowledge of motorized electronic drive and control systems for mechanism precision control Recent hands on experience Demonstrated success with mechanical design and strong analysis skills.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Mechanical EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
