Senior Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems Engineer

Under general supervision, independently applies advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions or to negotiate with key engineers and officials of other organizations.
Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice.
This position will lead engineers and ensure the team is proficient in the following areas:

1 and Div.

Responsibilities:
Provides day-to-day technical responsibility of the pressure systems safety efforts for NASA GSFC.
Maintains overall knowledge of NASA Safety Policy (which includes the Pressure Vessel and Pressurized Systems Standard) and ensures customer satisfaction by responding to customer requirements encompassing this safety engineering discipline.
Responsible for properly identifying customer problems and issues, researching program requirements, and determining the most effective solution given technical qualifications and contractual requirements.
Provides guidance and works independently with the customer.
Requires excellent communication skills and understands broad range of systems and risk as it applies to programmatic, technical and cost concerns.
Interacts regularly with customer representatives concerning work in progress.
Reviews, conducts, and evaluates pressure system engineering safety analyses and risk assessments; reviews submittals, design criteria, drawings, and documentation procedures for impacts and compliance with government standards and requirements and provides safety assessments.
Assists in performing safety/risk analyses and studies pertaining to pressure systems; determines safety requirements applicable to system design; conducts basic analyses identifying primary risk factors and hazard sources; identifies undesired effects which may occur during a system's life cycle.
Recommends abatement or mitigation actions to prevent hazards from resulting in accidents.
Assists in preparing systems analyses in accordance with Government codes and standards.
May attend design reviews and technical interchange meetings to provide safety assessments and technical support.
Interpersonal relationship building and customer interfacing skills are desiredSkills are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a minimum of 7 years related experience, with average experience ranging from 10
years.
A IBEW union position requires a BS in Engineering (ie, mechanical or fluids).
Ten years combined experience is required in the design, operation, maintenance, or repair of pressure vessels and/or pressure piping systems, and five years of experience managing projects.
MS in Engineering is desired and 8 years or more experience in the design, operation, maintenance, or repair of pressure vessels and/or pressure piping systems, and five years of experience managing projects.
