Registered Nurse, Outpatient Procedural PACU

Job Description Center for Vascular Medicine Outpatient Nurses provide high end critical nursing care to patients undergoing invasive diagnostic and interventional vascular procedures.
The CVM Vascular Labs perform innovative peripheral vascular care in a Outpatient procedural setting.
Nurses play an instrumental role in the lab and recovery area, including the administration of moderate sedation, pre and post recovery.
Nurses are part of an interdisciplinary team focused on safe patient care and quality patient outcomes.
Nurses are able to provide compassion to the patient in need, as well as the critical interventions needed during procedures.
General Summary of Position Independently provides critical and skilled nursing care to patients in a Outpatient Peripheral Vascular Catheterization Lab setting.
Minimum Qualifications Travel Greenbelt, Md Lab ( Monday, Thursday and Friday) Annapolis, MD Lab ( Tuesday, Wednesday) Education/Training Valid RN license in the State of Maryland.
Experience 5 year RN experience.
2 years experiencePACU/OR preferred but not required License/Certification/Registration CPR certification mandatory.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (must be able to complete with 30 days of hire).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated ability to practice with /or without direct supervision in a team setting.
Demonstrated high level of clinical competence.
Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.
Basic math skills.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Basic experience with IV insertion.
Knowledge & Skills 1.
Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment and techniques.

Demonstrates basic analytical skills necessary to solve problems and make decisions related to patient care.

Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians and others.

Requires the ability to learn proper nursing procedures, isolation, venipuncture, sterile techniques, Standard Precautions, and safety.

Requires the attention to detail and skill necessary to learn to provide conscious sedation under physician supervision.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands 1.
Must be able to work in a patient care environment requiring some physical exertion, push/pull and transfer of patient and stretchers and wearing of Xray lead apron.
2.
May be exposed to bio-hazards such as bodily fluids and Xray radiation.
3.
Must be able to travel to twice a week to other procedural lab in Annapolis Maryland.
4.
Must posses the physical ability and stamina to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time to perform the essential functions of the position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1.
Pre and post procedure.
Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
2.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Seeks opportunities to participate in developing, revising standards of practice to meet changing patient population requirements.
3.
Ensures accurate documentation before, during, and after the procedure; furnishes and receives appropriate reports; and, issues patient instructions.
Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care.
4.
Initiates and completes the procedural forms for indications and complications associated with the procedure.
5.
Maintains hemodynamic monitoring lines throughout the procedure.
Provides skilled assessment of cardiac, blood pressure and respiratory status.
6.
Safely administers Conscious Sedation under Physician supervision7.
Monitors rhythms; records EKGs; and monitors pressure data, hemodynamic monitoring values, wave forms, and standardization of equipment.
Performs or assists with the performance of such life saving techniques as CPR, defibrillation as needed.
8.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
9.
Performs other duties as assigned.
10.
Prepares final computerized report following each invasive procedure.
11.
Prepares patient for procedures.
Instructs patient in pre and post-catheterization procedure care.
Verifies that patient information and signed contract have been obtained and are available.
Assesses patient and chart to ensure readiness for scheduled procedure.
Notifies physicians of abnormal findings.
