HP073 Geospace Dynamics Constellation (GDC) Communications Lead

HP073 Geospace Dynamics Constellation (GDC) Communications Lead We are seeking a GDC communications lead to oversee all GDC communication efforts while also liaising with NASA Heliophysics communications to support internal communications, events outreach, and communications to the broader Heliophysics community.
The position is full-time and based at NASA's Goddard Space Flight (GSFC) facility in Greenbelt, MD.
The GDC communications lead performs and oversees the writing, imagery, video production, and posting regarding the GDC mission, in coordination with the Heliophysics communications and outreach team and with GDC partner institutions, for NASA websites, features, press releases, media advisories, mission support, and social media.
The GDC communications lead works closely with the NASA Heliophysics Science Division staff at NASA HQ, GSFC, other NASA Centers, GDC partner institutions, and the NASA Heliophysics communications team to ensure GDC messaging reflects the goals of the GDC mission and is in concert with the overarching Heliophysics mission and goals.
Additionally, the GDC communications lead will work with partner mission teams (such as the HelioSwarm constellation to investigate turbulence in the solar wind), internal reporting teams, and events coordination teams, to ensure that GDC messages are consistent with helio-messaging and that GDC products are available for a wide variety of outreach.
Responsibilities:
Create a comprehensive communications plan for the duration of the mission to enhance public engagement with GDC and to highlight GDC milestones, anomalies, and successes (science findings).
Ensure that communication products and plans include a wide range of audiences, including media, the public, the internal NASA community, the non-NASA Heliophysics community, and those who attend science meetings and events.
NASA's diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility goals and efforts should always be considered and included in communication planning whenever possible.
Such coordination relies on regular liaising - and in some cases working with teams that focus on those audiences.
Coordinate all aspects of communications around mission launches - a one- to two-year process.
Work with the NASA Heliophysics communications team to create and ensure logistical smoothness of press conferences, movies, press releases, visitor center events, internal talks, messaging, and contingency planning.
Work under the oversight of the NASA Helio Communications team to coordinate with Guest Operations, mission, and NASA leadership to ensure speakers for a wide variety of events.
Liaise with the Heliophysics Division to provide material for a launch book for NASA leads.
Provide regular GDC mission updates to the NASA Heliophysics communications team and other Heliophysics staff and partner institutions and interested parties as needed.
Work closely with GDC scientists and staff to assist with story development, conception, writing, editing, formatting, and posting of communication products on GDC (including non-NASA platforms).
This also includes drafting pieces about GDC mission science, the team, hardware, and connecting the mission to the other missions within NASA's Heliophysics mission fleet for publication on NASA and non-NASA platforms.
This may include web development, imagery, visualizations, animations, and science writing efforts.
Write, review, and edit GDC related content in Heliophysics stories written by other Heliophysics writers (within and outside of NASA) and Office of Communications staff and interns.
Work with scientists to hone their communication skills as necessary (writing/speaking in plain language) and help coordinate messaging for GDC mission staff which includes creating presentations, visuals, talking points and scripts.
Coordinate responses to inquiries from journalists for interviews with the NASA Heliophysics communications team.
Oversee social media for the GDC mission, working in close parallel with the Heliophysics social media accounts.
Create, oversee, and manage the GDC mission website (in conjunction with the Ground Systems team and Science Operations Center team).
