Summary:
The SIPS Principal Systems Engineer (SE) will support systems engineering activities for NASAs ICESat-2 Ground System.
The focus will be on the Science Investigator-led Processing System (SIPS) which is the science algorithm processing component for the ICESat-2 mission and is comprised of the SIPS facility, as well as the SIPS Scheduling and Data Management System (SDMS) and ATLAS Science Algorithm Software (ASAS).
The person selected for this position will support the project in the successful deployment of the SIPS system.
The SE needs recent/relevant Ground Systems experience with NASA, with demonstrated experience with NASA protocols and directives regarding Systems Engineering, which will include a strong understanding of relevant NPRs, eg, 7120 and 7150.
He/she will be expected to review systems requirements applicable to SIPS, as well as understanding the correlation of requirements across the ground system enterprise for ensuring continuity of the SIPS approach and activities to achieve goals and objectives of the ICESat-2 ground system.
The SE will participate in a broad spectrum of development, testing, deployment, and transition to operations activities.
The SEs role will require in-depth coordination of engineering activities with the SIPS Test Lead and will participate in the distillation of requirements, construct of detailed test procedures that will fully demonstrate satisfaction of the requirement(s), analysis of collected artifacts, and confirmation of requirement(s) satisfaction.
In addition, the SE will play a significant role in identification of SIPS failure scenarios, and participation in the documented articulation of how software recovery processes are applied and confirmed.
Other duties will include the verification and validation of ground subsystems operations requirements; support the development, integration, deployment, and initial operations of the SIPS system as a component of the ground system; work closely with other subsystem engineers and ground systems developers to validate operations requirements; support ground ICD development; support all pre-launch tests, as well as all assigned post-launch tests, and transition to operations.
The SE will participate in various scheduled and ad hoc meetings, TIMs, and teleconferences, and will be responsible for compilation and presentation of assigned documents and presentations.
Supports ground system requirements and Interface Control Documents (ICD) management by preparing or coordinating Configuration Change Request (CCR) packages and by participating in the configuration management processes.
Identifies and mitigates risks Prepares and provides reports management regarding development status for any aspect of the SIPS system development as needed or requested.
Education/
Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years related experience.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with NASA policies and procedures regarding project life cycles, software development, and systems engineering.
Experience with database tools, requirements management and system architecture tools.
Experience with the NASA communications networks Experience with testing methodologies and test planning Knowledge of space data handling standards, including CCSDS V&V experience MS Office products (Word, Power Point, Excel, Project) experience.
The SE will be required to interact with Confluence and MIS document storage systems.
